Holding on to your sink with one hand, bring one knee up in front of your body.  Engage your abs.  Leading with the heel of your raised leg, take the leg back (kneecap now pointing to the ground), now bring the leg around and up in front of the body again. (See video.) Do not let your foot touch the ground between reps.  Continue this exercise for a set of 12 before switching legs.  Keep abs engaged and the movement slow and controlled throughout.

Grab a single piece of clean laundry and hold it in front of you with both hands at chest level and arms fully extended. Pull tightly on each end of the piece of the laundry creating tension throughout your arms. Keep your abs engaged (squeezed in) and your knees slightly bent throughout this exercise. Hold for 10 seconds.  Now, keep arms extended while you fold your piece of laundry.  Relax the tension in your arms when you put the piece down and then get right back into it with your next piece. Continue until all of your laundry is folded.

Video: Stair Care

SqueezeItIn.com Girls | November 4, 2009

This is a great way to take care of yourself while taking care of your stairs.
Get the Flash Player to see this player.

Stand at the bottom of the stairs with your right side parallel to the first stair with feet forward and knees slightly bent, dust cloth in hand. Lift your right leg and place it one step above the stair you will be cleaning (or two stairs up). Come down into a squat making sure your knees don’t go beyond your toes and keeping all of your weight in your heels. Clean the empty stair that should be between your two legs. (See video.) When you finish, come up out of your squat using your top or right leg to pull yourself up to standing. Continue this same movement to the top of your stairs. When you’ve completed cleaning one side of your stairs, return to the bottom, align your left side parallel with the bottom stair and repeat, now working the opposite leg as you clean the other side of your stairs.

Take great care in doing this exercise and hold on to the railing for extra balance as you clean your way to slimmer thighs and glutes!

Exercise: Clean Up Kick Backs

SqueezeItIn.com Girls | October 26, 2009

Put some kick into your fall clean up with this double-duty approach to raking.

DSC01650Stand with rake extended in front of body. (See top photo.)

DSC01646While raking leaves in toward you, kick your right leg slowly behind you. (See bottom photo.)

This is a slow and controlled movement designed to tone your legs.  Keep the standing knee slightly bent and your core engaged throughout this movement.  Alternate legs as you continue to rake in your leaves. Do at least 2 sets of 12 on each side.

Variation: Kick it up a notch to turn this exercise into a cardio boost!  Instead of raising your legs slowly, kick back quickly alternating legs as you briskly rake your yard clean.

Exercise: Raise the Rakes

SqueezeItIn.com Girls | October 19, 2009

Bent over raking all afternoon?  Raise your rake for a good a stretch and some great shoulder toning.

Raise Rake 1Hold rake in front of chest with arms fully extended. Feet should be shoulder width apart, knees slightly bent.

Raise Rake 2Keep your core engaged and slowly bring the rake straight up overhead.  Just as slowly, lower rake down to starting position in front of chest.

Repeat for 2 sets of 12.

Raise Rake 3To add a stretch:  Hold rake above head and slowly bend to one side.  Keep hips facing forward and bend from your waist allowing arms to follow.  This move originates from your waist. Keep your lower body still as you do these stretches.  Hold for 10 seconds and then come back to starting position with rake raised above your head.

Alternate sides until you have completed 1 set of 12.

Your back should be straight while performing this exercise.  If you’re lower back tends to sway during this move, straighten your knees to help keep back straight.
