Nutrition: Think Inside the Box

SqueezeItIn.com Girls

This next idea idea from those fabulous gals Sue and Angelle of NourishMD is so simple it’s brilliant – and it works!  Follow the excellent tips in all four of their guest posts and you’ll be putting healthy, nutritious and delicious meals on the table in no time at all.

Thank you, NourishMD, for showing us how to easily squeeze so much REAL food into our lives!

Ever wonder how chefs can get so much food out to so many people so quickly?  It’s all about prepping.  The good news is you can get REAL food to your family REAL fast too with Step 3 of NourishMD.com’s One Easy System:  Prepping Made Simple.

Once you’ve Planned and Shopped for REAL food you need to prep your food so that it is easier and faster to grab REAL food snacks and meals than it is to drive through a drive through.

The key is to squeeze in some time once or twice a week to set-up your prep boxes just like chefs do before the restaurant opens for the evening.  Prep boxes (we like rectangular glass Pyrex dishes) are based on the ingredients you need for your planned weekly menu.   Some examples of prep boxes you will want to have in your fridge are:

Protein Boxes – Hard boiled eggs; cooked chicken; pre-cooked taco meat; nitrate-free bacon; sausage; cooked beans; sliced/cubed/shredded cheese; tuna or chicken salad; and any other protein source you feed your family.

Salad Boxes – Clean and chopped lettuce, spinach, arugula and any other greens for salads, sandwiches, tacos, etc.

Vegetable Box 1 – Cleaned cucumbers, carrots and celery sticks in water.

Vegetable Box 2 – Peppers sliced into strips and onions peeled and diced.

Blanched Vegetable Box – Blanched broccoli, cauliflower, and asparagus.  Blanched vegetables cook faster and maintain a fresher, brighter color.

Fruit Box – Fresh fruit chopped or fruit kabobs, which are a fun and easy way to prep and serve fruit.  Keep pineapple separate from other fruit.

Herb Box – Fresh herbs covered with wet paper towel and a small glass container inside with pre-chopped herbs.  Garlic and ginger root would be kept in this box.

Baked Goods Box – Homemade muffins and cookies made with whole grains and REAL food ingredients like sucanat and organic butter.

Trail Mix Box – Make different kinds of trail mixes each week.  They can include nuts and seeds but don’t have too.  Add dried fruits; unsweetened, shredded coconut; fresh fruits like blueberries and grapes; shredded carrots; jicama, etc.

With NourishMD.com’s One Easy System:  Planning, Shopping and Prepping Made Simple you can enjoy REAL food REAL fast every day.  Before you know it healthy eating will become a habit, just like squeezing in those Countertop Push Ups!
